Our Impact in Action

Needs Assessment & Research

  • Conducted a needs assessment in 2024, surveying over 1,000 perinatal women and interviewing 80+ Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) to identify barriers to quality maternal care.

  • Established a network of over 500 TBAs, providing valuable insights into community-based maternal healthcare.

  • Developed data-driven recommendations for improving maternal health referral systems and perinatal care in underserved communities.

Community Engagement & Capacity Building

  • Organized focus group meetings with perinatal women, TBAs, and healthcare professionals to gain deeper insights into maternal healthcare challenges and solutions.

  • Conducted street interviews and community discussions on key maternal health topics such as breastfeeding, health insurance, and access to care, engaging pregnant women and TBAs to gather insights and raise awareness.

Strengthening Perinatal Referral Systems

  • Designed a roadmap for our technology-driven perinatal referral system, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of maternal healthcare referrals.

  • Created a Referral Checklist Document to support TBAs in making timely and appropriate healthcare referrals.

  • Conducted TBA training sessions to enhance their skills in identifying high-risk pregnancies and making timely referrals.

Advocacy & Awareness

  • Created a 5-minute documentary featuring TBAs in Lagos State, showcasing their roles, challenges, and the need for an improved referral system.

  • Organized public engagement initiatives, including social media campaigns and on-the-ground interviews, to raise awareness about maternal healthcare challenges.

  • Actively sought partnerships and collaborations to scale our impact, including discussions with academic institutions, global health organizations, and emerging partnerships in Kano State to expand maternal health initiatives.
